A Wet Transition To Colder Weather

Good Thursday everyone. We continue with the wet weather out there today as much colder temps move in. This well below normal air will then hang around right on through the upcoming Halloween Weekend. The chilly pattern will also spit out a few more systems that may impact our weather.

The 5 Day Forecast gets it all started…

Our daily breakdown goes like this…

– Showers will continue across the region today as a cold front and wave of low pressure moves through. Much colder air will work in as our temps drop into the 40s. A gusty wind will add an extra chill to the air.

– The front puts the brakes on to our south and east as another low weak low pressure develops across the southern states. This is what the models have been fighting about for the past few days and those models showing the storm will win the war.

– This will bring some light rains northward out of Tennessee late tonight and that will overspread much of southern and southeastern Kentucky. How far north will this stuff get? I wouldn’t be surprised to see some drops all the way to Interstate 64. Highs for those areas socked into the clouds and light rain will be cold with readings in the low and mid 40s. 50 or a little higher will be noted outside of the action.

– There is the chance parts of southeastern Kentucky see some wet snowflakes mixing in with the rain at some point Friday.

– Another big storm will then blow up along the east coast on Saturday. We will keep an eye on this as the models have trended a bit west with this storm in recent runs. Right now, parts of West Virginia and Virginia are in line to get some snows from this. That action may include some of the big cities from D.C. to Boston. Here is how the storm looks on the GFS Ensembles…

That’s something you normally see in winter and not October. The above setup means a scattered shower can’t be ruled out here Saturday.

– Sunday looks like a good day with some sunshine and temps in the 50s for highs.

– Another disturbance will drop in from the northwest on Halloween and may touch off some showers and gusty winds. That’s something the trick or treaters may have to deal with.

I will have another update later today. Until then, let’s track some rain across the state…

Enjoy your Thursday and take care.
