History Making Rains

Good Tuesday everyone and welcome to history. 2011 is now the wettest year on record for the city of Lexington. Today’s heavy rain pushed the year past 1935 to claim the historic top spot. We are now putting a little space between this year and the rest of the pack as heavy rain falls into the afternoon.

More than an inch of rain has fallen today with up to a half inch more to come before the drops switch into flakes. Lexington’s rainfall total for the year is sitting at just over 66″ and climbing.

The second part of our fun day of weather will feature the rain giving in to snow. The switch to snow will slowly work in late this afternoon and continue into the evening. A slushy, light accumulation will be possible. Northwesterly winds will increase this evening and snow showers will become widespread. This could cause some slick travel overnight as temps drop into the 20s.

I will have more updates as needed. Take care.
