A Few Storms Start A Warm Derby Week

Good Monday everyone and welcome to a big week in Kentucky. It’s Derby week and the weather forecast starts to take on a little added importance this time of year. There are two things I am quite sure of this week. It will be VERY warm and we will see rounds of storms.

Highs today will head toward the lower and middle 80s for much of the state. We will notice an increase in humidity that adds to our summer feel.  A washed up cold front will still be meandering around the Ohio Valley and this will likely cause a few storms to go up. A few of those could be strong or severe later today into tonight.

Here’s the latest from the Storm Prediction Center:

Showers and thunderstorms will become more common later tonight into Tuesday. This may end up being a period when we have a little better shot at some strong storms. We also will need to keep an eye on repeat thunderstorm action that can put down some lofty rain totals.

Wednesday and Thursday may provide smaller storm threats and that should allow for our temps to soar. Highs in the mid and upper 80s will be common with a 90 possible in some areas. That warm weather rolls into Kentucky Derby weekend and will bring the scattered storm threat with it.

Enjoy your Monday and take care.
