Good Wednesday everyone. A mega heat wave is in progress across the plains states and this is expanding eastward and will soon engulf most of the country. Our temps will head toward triple digits over the next several days. Once the heat moves in… it may be slow to leave.
Let’s start things off with some cooler news. Lexington hit 52 degrees Tuesday morning and this tied the record low for the day from way back in 1958. Okay… that’s about all the news we have about anything remotely cool.
It’s time to bring the heat!! Hotter temps push in today with readings from the upper 80s to around 90 degrees. We will hang on to sunny skies.
The heat wave kicks off on Thursday and carries us into the upcoming weekend. Thermometer readings will be close to 100 degrees on more than one occasion. Check out the heat blast from the NAM for the next few days:
Record highs are in jeopardy and this may end up as the hottest blast of June air since the torrid summer of 1988. That summer was full of heat and drought and is a road we do want to travel down.
What about rain chances? The models are teasing us with the threat for some showers and thunderstorms this weekend. Here’s the GFS:
IF… and it’s a big IF… we can get some of those boomers to drift a bit southward, it would knock a few degrees off the temps and give us some rain. Regardless… the heat looks to hang tough into early next week, at least.
Have a great Wednesday and take care.
