Good Monday everyone. Our new week is starting off on a steamy note as the heat and humidity crank back up across the bluegrass state. The muggy air will bring along a familiar friend… thunderstorms. We have been in a fairly stormy period over the past few weeks and that trend looks to continue over the next few weeks.
Let’s break it down:
- Temps today will hit the upper 80s and lower 90s across much of the region. Isolated showers and storms will fire up during the afternoon and evening hours.
- Tuesday looks to be a tad hotter with a better shot at some showers and thunderstorms going up. This is when we will need to watch the northwestern skies for clusters of storms to come rolling in.
- That pattern looks to take us through the remainder of the week. It’s a period that can produce strong or severe storms and heavy rains.
- The core of the heat is expected to stay across the plains states over the next few weeks. It will take a few stabs at us, but the real nasty stuff stays west. This setup would mean a continuation of the on and off storm clusters. That shows up well on the GFS two week rainfall forecast:
You can see how that heat ridge has very little rainfall near it and how it sends clusters of storms around the outer edge of the torrid heat.
Back to today and your weather trackers:
Have a great Monday and take care.
