Here comes the snow part of the storm

Good evening everyone. This storm is certainly living up to the hype we’ve been giving it for the past several days. Winds have been gusting to between 50 and 60 mph across much of the region. Lexington topped 50 mph and Winchester just hit 56 mph. Now comes the snow.

A winter weather advisory is out for most of Eastern and southeastern Kentucky during this time. I suspect we should place more counties in Central and Northern Kentucky in that advisory. Snow showers and squalls will rapidly increase late this evening and overnight as northwesterly winds kick in.

My snowfall numbers from earlier look pretty good, but I do think areas a bit farther west will also get in on a bit more snow. Travel conditions will go downhill quickly late tonight and Friday morning as roads turn a little icy and visibility is reduced.

Here’s the regional radar to watch the snow increase:

Stay safe and take care.
