Another snow threat to start the new year

Good Sunday everyone. We are wrapping up a cold and snowy weekend for much of the bluegrass state. It’s looking more and more like 2012 will wrap up on a cold and snowy note as another storm system rolls into the bluegrass state. That action will hang tough into day one of the new year.

Our Sunday begins with a few snow flurries across eastern parts of the state. Clouds will be rather tough to break up, but a few rays of sun will be noted. Temps will remain cold with highs in the upper 20s and low 30s.

Clouds will quickly thicken up on Monday as moisture streams in from the southwest. We will have a weak front working in at the same time and this means light snow will beak out during the afternoon. That light snow looks to be around as we say hello to 2013.

The GFS shows the possibility of a little rain mixing in across the south by New Year’s Day:

That is likely to put down a swath of light snowfall across much of the state and could mean some slick travel for party goers.

Even colder air moves in behind that system and the models are trying to show another southern storm impacting our weather by the end of next week:

Make it a great Sunday and take care.
