Tropical air might bring a few storms

Good Thursday, everyone. We have a round of tropical air poised to work into the Bluegrass State over the next few days. The muggy air will be accompanied by higher temps and a daily threat of showers and thunderstorms. That sure sounds a lot like a typical Kentucky summer, doesn’t it?

Highs today will be 80 to 85 degrees in the area. You will notice a touch more humidity moving back in and that might fire up an isolated shower or thunderstorm across the far south.

Temps and humidity will climb as we roll into Friday, and that will bring the risk of a pop-up shower or thunderstorm. Here’s the NAM forecast radar for late in the day:

The tropical pattern kicks into high gear this weekend, as warm and humid air settles in:GFS

That setup means daily highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees, with very muggy air. The threat of showers and thunderstorms will be with us every afternoon.

That is likely to continue into early next week before changes move in for the middle and end of the week.
