Good Thursday and Happy 4th of July. Rounds of showers and thunderstorms are rolling across the region today and this may end up causing some issues. The atmosphere is loaded with moisture and that will lead to heavy rain falling over the next few days.
Combine the heavy rain with a wet ground and you have the setup for possible high water issues. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect today into Friday for all of central and eastern Kentucky.
Rainfall totals during this time should average 1″-3″ with locally higher amounts. Additional rounds of rain and storms will carry us into the weekend, so we may see the high water threat continue.
Today’s rounds of storms will be working in from south to north. This action can be traced all the way into the southern Gulf of Mexico and that flow will help set the stage for torrential rains.
Let’s track the action:
Please keep an eye on water levels and be prepared to move to higher ground if need be.
Happy 4th and take care.
