Heavy rain threat continues into the weekend

Good Saturday and welcome to a soggy weekend. We have additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms on the weather menu for the weekend. That is the last thing we need as our ground is full of water. The new rounds of rain will lead to a renewed threat for flash flooding.

Central and eastern Kentucky are under a Flash Flood Watch into Sunday. Much of the region picked up 2″-6″ of rain over the past few days. Lexington has had between 3 and 4 inches.

The Gulf of Mexico continues to send tropical moisture our way and this has caused our atmosphere to become loaded with water. Rounds of showers and storms will be the end result today and Sunday. New rain totals of 1″-4″ will be possible across much of central and eastern Kentucky during that time.

Here’s one model forecast during this time:

More rounds of storms will be around next week and continue to add to our rain woes…

HPC 2If you live in a low lying or flood prone area, continue to monitor water levels and be prepared to move to higher ground.
