An increasing threat for showers and storms

Good Thursday to one and all.  Our hot and humid weather pattern is about to give way to one we are very familiar with. Showers and thunderstorms will continue to become much more prominent over the next several days. That’s a setup likely to take us into next week.

High temps today will be back into the upper 80s to low 90s.  Please ignore the official temperature coming from Blue Grass Airport in Lexington. It is running way to hot and has been since undergoing a change back in the spring. The current temps coming from that site are corrupting historical weather data for the city.

Any storm that blows up today could be strong with heavy rain and a lot of lightning. Your tracking tools:

The same setup will hang around into Friday and that means a day similar to what we have out there today.

The threat for showers and storms will really ramp up this weekend. That’s when a strong cold front works in from the north and northwest:

GFS

Some of those storms may become severe and put down a lot of water. The good news out of that front will be the decrease in temps. Highs will come back down into the 80s and that should carry us into much of next week.

Rounds of storms will become common as we head into early next week. This stuff will be dropping in from the northwest…

That’s something we haven’t seem much of this summer. (rolls eyes)

Have a great day and take care.
