A hot and stormy week ahead

Good Sunday, everyone. In terms of hot weather, this has been a very wimpy summer across central and eastern Kentucky. Our temps have been much cooler than normal and the really hot air has stayed away. That will try to change for the last week of August as we get a taste of the heat.

The hotter weather will bring a familiar friend back into town… thunderstorms. The core of the heat will stay just to our west as clusters of storms form along its eastern edge. Here’s a look at what I’m talking about:

What does all that mean for our daily weather? Here ya go:

– Temps today will warm into the middle 80s for most areas with a few upper 80s possible.

– Monday and Tuesday will feature temps closing in on 90 degrees with an increase in humidity levels and the threat for isolated storms.

– The greatest threat for rounds of storms will move in from the northwest later Wednesday into Thursday. Some of those could be strong and will knock temps down a few degrees.

That takes us into Labor Day weekend and into the kickoff of the college football season. All eyes will be on Nashville for the Kentucky-WKU game. Here’s my initial forecast:Special Graphic

I will keep updating that forecast right up until kickoff.

Make it a sensational Sunday and take care.
