Tracking the winter storm, updated

Noon Update

Happy Tuesday, everyone. A winter weather advisory is out for much of Central and Eastern Kentucky through Wednesday. Winter storm warnings are  out for parts of Eastern Kentucky. Here’s a look:

Warnings

I don’t have many changes to my overall line of thinking with this storm. The heaviest snow will fall across Eastern Kentucky, with lighter amounts in the central sections. The last call for snowfall:

Snowfall Forecast

Again, that is everything that falls through tomorrow, and not just what comes tonight. Travel conditions will go downhill quickly Tuesday evening, and slick spots will continue to be a problem Wednesday.

Take care.

Previous Update

Good Tuesday, folks.  A winter storm is taking aim at the Bluegrass State today and Wednesday. This will have a serious impact on holiday travelers across our region and throughout much of the eastern half of the country.

Here’s the latest breakdown of what to expect:

– A wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow will be noted early Tuesday in many areas. The precipitation will change to all rain across Southern and Eastern Kentucky and will be heavy at times. Farther north and west, the wintry mix will continue.

– A rapid transition to snow will occur late Tuesday afternoon and early evening from northwest to southeast. This means a heavy band of snow will break out across Central and Eastern Kentucky. That will continue overnight, especially across the east.

– There will be snow showers and squalls Wednesday with highs in the 20s and winds gusting to 30 mph. This will create wind-chills as low as the single digits.

– Travel conditions will be mainly wet Tuesday but will worsen quickly once the snow starts in the evening. Slick roads will be likely from Tuesday evening into Wednesday. Some roads in the east might be snow-covered for a time.

How much snow will fall? Here’s my latest forecast:
