Good Saturday, everyone. To say today’s weather is ugly would be an understatement. A light morning mix gives way to a cold rain as the day wears on. That qualifies as a lot of ugly in my book. The rainy sky will give way to some light snow and snow showers later tonight into Sunday. That’s just a few steps above ugly.
Some rain and snow will be around the northern half of the state early this morning. Some slushy accumulation is possible the farther north you live. Temps warm into the mid and upper 30s as a cold rain takes over by mid morning. That continues into the afternoon.
This is in response to a storm system rolling just to our east. As that system turns the corner up the coast, colder air surges back in here this evening into tonight and changes the rain to light snow.
Snow showers and flurries will continue into Sunday. The GFS seems to have a decent handle on all this:
With temperatures in the low to mid 20s Sunday morning, some slick spots may develop on area roads. Some areas may even pick up on a small accumulation of snow. Highs tomorrow will only reach the mid to upper 20s.
A couple of weak systems will drop in for Monday and Tuesday and could bring some flurries or light snow to some.
The pattern by next weekend turns very active as another MAJOR surge of arctic air dives into the plains states. Our temps will come way up for a couple of days before the arctic front swings in here later Saturday or Sunday. We may go from a heavy rain and wind scenario to arctic cold and snow in a matter of hours in that type of a setup.
The cold coming in behind that takes us into Christmas week:
