Changes for the final days of the year

Good Saturday, everyone. We have great weather across the bluegrass state today, but you had better go outside and enjoy it. Ugly stuff is on the way for Sunday and Old Man Winter is plotting his return for next week.

Temperatures today will top out in the upper 40s to low 50s as clouds increase from the south. These clouds are ahead of a storm system that will bring rain into the region later tonight into Sunday. Some of the rain will be heavy across the east and southeast.

Check out the rainfall forecast from the GFS:

Some areas in the southeast may see more than one inch of water before the day is finished.

The first drops should arrive in the south later this evening and spread north from there. Regional radar will help you out:

A strong cold front arrives Sunday night and will deliver MUCH colder air by Monday. A band of light snow will be likely behind this front Sunday night:

NAMLeftover flurries and light snow showers will be around on Monday with temps in the 20s. Gusty winds will make it feel much colder.

From this point, we will watch several other systems dropping in from the northwest. These will be hard to time and won’t really show up very well on the models until we are a few days away.

The strongest of these looks to arrive on Thursday.

Have a great Saturday and take care.
