Warm weather to usher in a stormy pattern

Good Friday, everyone. Showers and thunderstorms are rolling across the Bluegrass State to start the day. This action will scoot to our east and leave behind a warm weekend. That warm air will then usher in a very stormy setup as we head into Kentucky Derby week.

The rain and storms of Friday will work out of Eastern Kentucky by early in the afternoon. Winds will be rather gusty as the sun appears from west to east. That will help boost highs into the upper 60s to near 70.

I have all your end of the week weather trackers:

The weekend continues to look fantastic. Highs Saturday will reach the mid- and upper 70s under mainly sunny skies. That means you will need the sunscreen if you’re heading out to the Kentucky football spring game at Commonwealth Stadium.

Sunday will see highs making a run at 80 degrees, with mostly sunny skies and a gusty southwesterly wind.

Rounds of storms will then roll in by Sunday night and Monday, and that is likely to set the stage for severe weather and heavy rainfall. The models show the storms coming at us in waves:

EuroThat’s a pretty good signature for severe weather and is something we will focus more on as we head through the weekend.

Have a great Friday and take care.
