Scattered storms to end July

Good Thursday and welcome to the last day of July. A scattering of showers and thunderstorms will be around Thursday and looks to increase in the coming days. One thing that does not want to increase very much: the temperatures. Readings will continue to run below normal.

Thursday wraps up a much cooler-than-normal month in Lexington and all of Kentucky. Temperatures are running 2 to 4 degrees cooler than normal on average, with several days featuring record lows. That’s impressive.

Highs Thursday will hit the low 80s, with a mix of sun and clouds, and scattered storms.

The chance of storms will increase late Friday and Saturday as a disturbance comes at us from the Southwest.


Highs over the weekend will range from the high 70s to the lower 80s. Lows will range from the upper 50s to the low 60s.

The setup for next week is likely to feature another sharp dip in the jet stream. Some of the models show a strong cutoff area of low pressure:
