The week ahead in weather

Good Sunday and Happy Father’s Day to all our dads out there. The weather today is looking great for a little cookout as sunny skies roll on. I do have some changes to the week ahead forecast, as thunderstorms may take on a bigger role.

Highs today will be in the middle to upper 80s with sunny skies. There could be an isolated shower or storm just to our west. Something to watch.

Readings may flirt with 90 on Monday as humidity levels increase from the southwest. This may also be able to spawn isolated showers or thunderstorms going up in the afternoon.

Thunderstorm chances really increase by Tuesday as a cold front drops in from the northwest:

That front then slows down across our region with a wave of low pressure developing along it. That should increase showers and thunderstorms across our part of the world.

We find the GFS and European Models in good overall agreement on this. Here’s the GFS:

The European Model:

If those are accurate, heavy rains would be a possibility. Temps for the middle and end of the week look normal to below normal for the bluegrass state.

Make it a great Father’s Day and take care.
