Arctic blasts set to return

Good Monday, everyone. Our work week is off and running with rain moving away from the region. This will soon be replaced by additional rounds of arctic cold temperatures and the threat of some winter weather.

The rain slowly ends from west to east as colder air pushes back in this afternoon and evening. That’s when a few flakes may fly:

Arctic air moves back in here by the middle of the week as a front sags in from the northwest. As expected, the models are back to seeing a band of light snow and flurries. The GFS puts a little snow down.:

gfs-snowThe Canadian model does, too:

canadianThe air coming with this arctic blast will be a lot colder than the last one we went through. Check out the forecast numbers:

canadian-2Gusty winds will make those numbers feel a whole lot colder! Brr!

This sets the stage for an interesting couple of systems starting Friday and taking us through the weekend and into early Monday.

The new version of the GFS:

gfsThat model shows a mix developing then going over to rain from Friday into Saturday. As another arctic front moves in behind it by Sunday, you can see a low pressure developing along it with ice and snow.

Have a great day and take care.
