Tracking a blast of winter weather

Good Sunday, everyone. We are now in phase 2 of our wild weekend of weather across the bluegrass state. Phase one brought high winds, thunderstorms and warm temps on Saturday. Today’s phase is all about the winter weather potential.

VERY early today, we will be seeing a rapid west to east temperature drop. Most areas are in the 20s by shortly after daybreak. Those temperatures will lead to a quick freeze up of area roads. Throw in a period of sleet and some snow, and you have the recipe for some slick travel.

I will have your tracking tools in a bit.

Looking down the road, we have a couple of systems of interest coming at us leading up to Christmas. The first arrives on Thursday and may bring some light rain to light snow:

A much bigger storm system will then develop and work out way Christmas weekend. The models keep going farther south and east with this system, leading to a rain to snow potential. The GFS Parallel:

Folks, from a week away, there’s a chance!
