Severe weather for Memorial Day weekend

Good Friday, everybody. Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to summer, but severe storms are going to try and steal the show. We have an increasing risk of severe weather and flash-flooding over the next few days.

Before the storms get in here, much warmer air arrives Friday, with highs in the upper 70s and low 80s. Humidity levels also will increase, and this could spawn some strong to severe storms Friday evening and into the night.

Here’s what you need to track this action:

The severe storm threat increases Saturday and Sunday as a series of storms roll across the Commonwealth. These storms are likely to contain damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes.

The Storm Prediction Center has the entire state in the risk area for Saturday:

In addition to the severe storm threat, flash-flooding might become a player. Our ground is pretty much soaked and can’t hold much more, but heavy rain of a few inches is possible. That would lead to some high-water problems.

Make it a great day and take care.
