Good Monday, folks. It’s been a long time coming, but some amazing springtime weather has finally arrived in central and eastern Kentucky. The timing on this is perfect for Kentucky Derby week. But… There’s always a but… Some storms may impact our weather later in the week.
The headline of the pattern is temps are heading into the 80s. Highs by Tuesday make a run at 80, with 80-85 possible Wednesday and Thursday:
The 80s may be the star of the weather show, but the opening act is pretty darn impressive. Highs today will hit the low 70s with mostly sunny skies. Enjoy, my friends.
As our temps warm, a big severe weather out break is likely to our west into the plains and Mississippi Valley. These storms will slowly work our way, with some isolated stuff possible on Wednesday, but most of the action stays west:
Thursday, but it’s a close call:
Unfortunately, the best chance for storms arrives on Kentucky Oaks Day Friday:
The good news for the Run For The Roses is that most of the storms should be to our east by then. The GFS is showing a pretty good lookin day with highs in the 70 degree range:
As I’ve been saying, it’s all about just how fast that front blows through here. The European Model is slowing this thing down some, keeping the shower and storm threat going in the south and east on Derby Day:
A shot of cooler than normal temps comes in behind this in about a week from now.
Have a great Monday and take care.
