Tracking the Thursday severe threat

Good Thursday, everyone. We have a very windy and mild day in the making, but this mild air may also bring a few showers and storms into the picture. As a cold front sweeps in this afternoon and evening, some of the storms may become severe.

Temps today reach the low 70s into much of central and eastern Kentucky on a gusty southwesterly wind. Those winds may top close to 50mph at times and that could cause some power hits or take a few trees down.

A few showers and storms may get into central Kentucky early today, then we get a windy break in the action. As the front moves in this evening, a line of showers and storms will refire ahead of it. Some of those may be strong or severe as they work in here.

Here’s a look at where the best severe potential is according to the Storm Prediction Center:

Much chiller weather moves on Friday as temps drop into the 40s. Gusty winds continue and there’s a chance for a late day shower.

Chilly weather continues into the weekend, but with mainly dry conditions until Sunday night.
